GUIDELINES FOR TEMPORARY FOOD SERVICE EMPLOYEES / STAFF

Three important functions of the school lunch program

  1. To provide a nutritionally adequate meal which is tasty and satisfying
  2. To help children grow socially and emotionally
  3. To provide learning situations in nutrition that improve children’s food habits

To achieve these functions, all food service employees are required to follow the following guidelines:

MEALS:  Lunch is provided for all food service employees but must be eaten during the lunchtime as designated by the Nutrition & Wellness Manager. No food will be held back during the serving time for an employee to eat later. Personal food or beverages can not be stored or reheated in the school’s cafeteria foodservice equipment: i.e. fridge, freezer…etc.

BREAKS:  Employees entitled to a break may have food or beverage served on the menu that day during their break time. Meal periods do not count as actual time worked.

The Nutrition & Wellness Manager designates break time. The same applies to those working longer hours and receive a lunch. Tobacco products are prohibited on all school sites.

DRESS:  Uniforms are not required. Aprons, gloves, and hair restraints will be provided as required. Clothing must be neat, clean, and presentable for working in a school environment.

  • Shorts and Capri’s are not permitted: Legs must be fully covered
  • Sleeveless tops are not permitted
  • Shoes should be comfortable and sturdy: No open toed or open heeled shoes are allowed
  • Fingernails are to be kept clean and short: No artificial nails or fingernail polish are allowed
  • Excessive jewelry is not allowed

KITCHEN:  Areas of particular interest are as follows:

  • Absolutely no eating with fingers or nibbling in the kitchen
  • Absolutely no gum chewing in the kitchen or serving areas
  • Serving gloves must be worn when using hands for prep or serving
  • Hair restraints are to be worn in the kitchen at all times!
  • Absolutely no smoking on any school campus
  • No food is to be taken home from the kitchen at any time

ATTENDANCE:  Attendance in our department is extremely important. Personal appointments should be made before or after work hours when possible. If you know ahead of time that you will need to be off work, you are expected to let your kitchen manager and your temp agency know in advance so they can find alternate coverage. You are scheduled to be at work at your assigned time. Tardiness is not permitted.

FOOD SAFETY CERTIFICATE OR CARD: A temp employee cannot report to work until a valid card or certificate by an ANSI-accredited food handler training program is obtained. A valid certificate or card from the employee training course must be maintained or kept at the current work-place. FINGER PRINTS:  Temp employees will be finger printed. This will be done at the human resource office.  At the front desk, please let the person know that you are a temporary food service employee scheduled for fingerprints through the Nutrition and Wellness Department. The office is located:

DUTIES:  You must be flexible to work where needed. Work duties may involve the following:

  • Food preparation
  • Serving on the lunch line
  • Training on the computer for meal service
  • Money handling and verification
  • Washing dishes, emptying trash, and cleaning floors
  • Working various areas of set-up and providing clean-up
  • Other duties as assigned

TO BE CONSIDERED ALL CANDIDATES MUST:

  • Have their own vehicle
  • Be willing to work in the north/east valley
  • Be willing to work at any of the PVUSD locations
  • Have or be able to obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Have or be able to obtain a Food Handlers Card
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Provide proof of eligibility to work in the US
