Applications Engineering Manager leads the applications engineering group. This position is a hands-on, working manager role with equal time to be spent managing the work of others and delivering against day-to-day and longer-term commitments as an individual contributor.
Responsibilities
Develops strategy and tactical execution plans for applications engineering and CAM computer-aided manufacturing teams to meet company financial, safety, and quality targets.
Works with team members to define annual performance goals and targets and actively engages in tracking progress vs. Plan.
Provides support and guidance to enable the success of team members.
Collaborates with applications staff and factory leadership team to create and nurture professional development opportunities to ensure a robust talent pipeline.
Provides technical support during the sales process including DFM consulting help Mechanical Engineers gain knowledge of Manufacturing practices with customers weighing fabrication tradeoffs between design requirements, quality, and cost.
Manages the workflow that creates manufacturing process documents; BOMs bill of materials, routings, travelers, special work instructions, CAM files, and inspection plans for manufacturing.
Performs manufacturing risk assessment and creates appropriate introduction plans for new and/or difficult builds.
Partners with the factory and process engineering team to ensure process capability and capacity are established.
Assists sales in cost estimation and pricing to meet internal financial goals.
Supports manufacturing and quality team escalations on released builds to meet OTD on-time delivery and quality requirements.
Assists in quality and customer satisfaction investigations including customer complaints/RMA Return Merchandise Authorization and CAPA Corrective Action Preventive Action
Supports sales team through customer visits, customer calls, trade shows, and creation of demo materials to showcase company capabilities.
Supports a technology roadmap that defines future capabilities to meet new commercial opportunities.
Develops and implements improvement plans for workflows that simplify steps, improve standardization and identify errors in key manufacturing documents and CAM files.
Develops, tests, and implements improvements to business processes for manufacturing planning, risk reduction, and quality control.
Requirements
Bachelor s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Microelectronic, Material Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience required. Candidates with alternative education and/or training will be considered with 4+ years of demonstrated experience in targeted industries
Direct experience designing microfabrication process flows for manufacture of PCB Printed Circuit Board, IC integrated circuit or MEMS microelectromechanical-system products.
Experience with ERP/MRP Enterprise Resource Planning / Material Requirements Planning and/or MES manufacturing execution system software for the creation of manufacturing process flows.
Working knowledge of lean/ Six Sigma methodologies; Experience using JMP statistical analysis software a plus.
Experience working in a clean room environment or clean space in which particulate control and cleanliness best practices are employed.
Familiar with the interpretation of PCB printed circuit board industry standards such as IPC, ISO, J-STD, GD& a plus
6+ years of electronics manufacturing experience with 3+ years working in a leadership role preferred. Experience in PCB, IC, or MEMS process design and/or fabrication required.
