General Summary

Skilled craftsman who operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, shears, band saws, drill presses etc. to produce machined parts according to prints and specifications. A machinist uses this variety of equipment to manufacture, install, operate, adjust and repair machine tools and other machines in common use.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate machines such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, shears, band saws, drill presses etc. to produce machined parts according to prints and specifications.
  • Follow blueprints, rough sketches, or engineer drawings to make parts accurately.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
  • Assist other employees in the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure drawing compliance of all parts throughout the manufacturing process.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough working knowledge of blueprints and work orders to evaluate the manufacturing requirements and special instructions prior to fabrication.
  • A good knowledge of manual machining and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to use a sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished piece work.
  • Complete knowledge of all related skill area machines, equipment and hand tools and ability to operate all fabrication equipment in their area of focus.
  • Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent with 1-3 years of experience in the field. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Manufacturing environment. Safety shoes and glass required. Must be able to lift minimum of 50 lbs.

  • Experience and a working knowledge in the operation and programming of a CNC mills and lathes
