AtWork Personnel Services - Irondale is seeking professional and motivated candidates for the Director of the Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce position. Job Summary:
The Director of the Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce is a key representative and advocate for business owners and employers in the Irondale, Ala. area. To support area businesses, the Chamber Director’s activities include, but are not limited to, member recruitment and networking; scheduling, publicizing, and administration of Chamber meetings; supervision, training and motivation of Chamber Ambassadors and other volunteers; development and management of a budget, as well as a strong social media presence, website and newsletter. The Director also attends meetings of the City Council and other City departments and community events as needed. Weekend work is sometimes required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Strategic Planning - The Director is responsible for directing and implementing, the strategic plan and related program of work within policies adopted by the Board of Directors. This will include:
- Marketing, promoting, and sustaining the current membership base.
- Creating, directing and implementing Membership Campaigns and New Member Orientations.
- Scheduling, organizing, publicizing, and managing all of the Chamber’s events and sponsorships to increase levels of profitability and support local businesses.
Volunteers –The Director is responsible for recruiting, motivating, and training Chamber Ambassadors to serve in a public relations capacity, and as a liaison between the Chamber and member businesses. Volunteers assist with events, seminars, and meetings and assist the Director in forming and directing committees to help with such things as events, education, marketing, and advertising.
Income and Expenses – The Director, in conjunction with the Chamber Board, is responsible for the development and management of the annual Chamber budget. The Director keeps accurate financial records, including all invoices, which are shared with the Board; makes timely deposits of funds, and works with other team members, approved by the board, when collecting funds.
Speakers and New Businesses – The Director is responsible for seeking out and securing speakers for the Chamber’s monthly luncheons as well as welcoming new businesses, setting up ribbon-cutting ceremonies, and similar events.
Long-Range Planning – Under the direction of a revolving Board of Directors and an annually changing roster of officers, the Director is responsible for maintaining continuity and consistency in programming. Based on research of community needs, the Director must anticipate emerging and long-range challenges and recommend Chamber and community programs to address such challenges.
With the Board of Directors – The Director is responsible for preparing an agenda, maintaining board minutes/records, carrying out plans and programs of the Board, serving as representative between the Board, the City and Community, and initiating suggestions/ programs for consideration by the Board.
With Chamber Members – The Director must motivate members to support – personally and financially – an aggressive Chamber program. The individual must analyze and interpret the needs of the members and recommend revisions in Chamber programs to improve service and assistance to members that will increase the value of membership in the Chamber. The Director entertains suggestions, proposals and requests from members and translate them into action consistent with the fundamental objectives and policies of the Chamber. The individual may render personal service to members as the occasion requires and time allows.
With the Community – The Director represents the Chamber in meetings of local, state and national organizations. Through personal contacts with key community leaders, the individual strives to develop a better public understanding of the purpose and functions of the Chamber and the other organizations.
Material or Products – Within budget allocation, the Director is responsible for the purchase, storage, and use of all Chamber supplies and equipment.
Revenues – The Director is responsible for all the income of the Chamber, including funds from sources that are administered by the Chamber.
Interpretation of Policy – The Director will ensure that Chamber policy, as established by the Board, is properly recorded in minutes and indexed in a Policies and Procedures Manual. The Director assists the Board, committees, members, and the staff in interpreting policy in relation to any given question or program. The Director assists the President in preparation of statements of Chamber positions on public issues and keeps an official record of these positions
- A minimum of three years of experience in a business related field or other leadership position.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or equivalent experience.
- Experience in management of staff and projects, fund raising, and budgeting is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong organizational skills, including ability to set long-term strategy and action plans.
- Strong community involvement and ability to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems
- Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work a full-time, flexible work week to include evenings and weekend participation in
Chamber and community events as needed.
