A pipelayer's job is to lay pipes for water mains, drains, and storm or sanitation sewers.
Responsibilities Include:
Laying pipes Pipelayers lay pipes on and under the ground using a variety of tools and equipment. Preparing trenches Pipelayers dig trenches to the required depth, either by hand or with trenching tools. They may also grade or level the trench bases. Positioning pipes Pipelayers align and position pipes to prepare them for sealing or welding. Sealing joints Pipelayers use glue, cement, or welding equipment to connect pipe pieces and seal joints. Covering pipes Pipelayers cover pipes with dirt or other materials. Maintaining pipes Pipelayers perform continual maintenance on pipes and replace those that need repair. Using instruments Pipelayers use instruments like lasers, grade rods, or transit levels to install or use them. Operating equipment
